A WanderWheels pickup-camper setup. This exterior image illustrates the installation context; it does not confirm dimensions, payload or compatibility for another truck.

Fitment guide · Before requesting a quotation

A truck’s model name and advertised bed size are useful starting points, but they are not enough to approve a camper installation. A fitment review also needs the bed’s usable shape, cab clearance, fitted accessories, mounting arrangement and the truck’s remaining load capacity.

This checklist helps you prepare measurements for a review of the Pop-Up X living camper or Pop-Up 02 truck-cap platform. It is not an installation drawing or a guarantee of compatibility.

1. Identify the exact truck and its current setup

Record the make, model, year, cab style and bed version. Note any bed liner, canopy rails, tonneau-cover rails, toolbox, tie-down equipment or other accessories already installed. Different bed versions and accessories can change usable space even when the vehicle name is the same.

Photograph the complete bed from above or from a clear rear angle, both bed sides, the area next to the cab and any projecting hardware. Do not include personal documents or a visible vehicle identification number unless the supplier has specifically requested it through a suitable private channel.

2. Measure the usable bed, not just the advertised size

Use one unit system consistently and label your measurements clearly. Measure from fixed surfaces and show the measurement points in photographs. If an accessory reduces space, record both the bed dimension and the reduced clearance.

Swipe the table sideways to read the measurement checklist.

MeasurementWhat to recordWhy it matters
Inside bed lengthLength along the bed floor; identify whether the tailgate is included and its position.A quoted “short bed” label does not describe the actual support area.
Inside width and wheel-arch clearanceClear width between wheel arches and the usable width at other relevant heights. The camper’s lower section and the bed’s narrowest points must be compared.
Bed depth and top railsFloor-to-rail height and photographs of the top-rail shape and fitted rail hardware.A truck-cap platform and a slide-in camper interact with the bed differently.
Rear opening and obstructionsOpening shape, tailgate position and any hardware that projects into the loading path.Installation access can be different from the clear space inside the bed.
Cab and roof clearanceClear photographs and dimensions of the cab and any existing roof accessories relative to the bed.The cab-over section must be checked against the actual vehicle, not a model-name assumption.
Mounting and support pointsPhotos of existing attachment points and the current bed structure. The supplier or installer must confirm the appropriate model-specific mounting arrangement.

A supplier may request additional measurements from a model-specific drawing. Do not invent a mounting location, drill the truck or remove structural parts based on this general checklist.

3. Review the complete camping load separately

Dimensional fit and load capacity are different questions. Record the truck’s payload rating and list occupants, installed accessories, the configured camper, water, luggage and other camping equipment. Use the payload worksheet to organise that information.

Ask for the configured camper’s weight, what that figure includes and any relevant loading or mounting guidance. A published product weight range does not approve every truck in a model family. The vehicle’s applicable weight and axle limits still need to be checked using the manufacturer’s information and qualified installation advice. For a general explanation of these terms, see Ford’s guide to vehicle weights; use the ratings and instructions for your own vehicle.

4. Choose the correct product category

The Pop-Up X is an integrated living camper. Pop-Up 02 is a lighter truck-cap and pop-up sleeping platform. They should not be treated as interchangeable simply because both have a pop-up roof. Compare the two layouts and tell us how you plan to camp and use the truck.

5. Send a clear fitment request

Your enquiry checklist

Ask for written confirmation of the compatible configuration, mounting requirements and any information still needed before ordering. If you are evaluating a dealer sample, keep a separate fitment record for each truck version rather than extending one installation result to an entire market.

Prepare your truck for a fitment review

Start with your truck details and measurements. Our team can review the requested model and tell you what additional information is needed before a final quotation.

Overseas buyer planning · Autumn 2026

A sourcing trip should leave you with comparable quotations and a clear next step, not just a folder of camper photographs. If you are visiting Guangzhou during the Canton Fair period, use this truck camper sourcing checklist to prepare your vehicle information, examine a sample and ask for a configuration-specific proposal.

Planning a WanderWheels visit? We can discuss an off-site meeting and arrange a sample viewing in Guangzhou by appointment. Overseas buyers can also request a visit to our factory in Rongcheng, Shandong. The date, address and available sample model must be confirmed with our team before you travel. These are separate arrangements, not a Canton Fair booth announcement.

See the two appointment options or start with the buyer checklist.

Canton Fair Autumn 2026: plan around the official dates

The 140th Canton Fair has three on-site phases. The following dates are for the fair itself; they are not a promise that a WanderWheels sample is available every day.

Phase2026 exhibition dates
Phase 1October 15–19
Phase 2October 23–27
Phase 3October 31–November 4

Check the official Canton Fair website for your exhibition phase, exhibitor information and current visitor arrangements. Our Guangzhou viewing is off-site and by appointment. Do not assume a booth number, exhibition-hall location or organiser affiliation from this guide.

1. Bring a vehicle brief before comparing campers

“Will this fit my pickup?” needs more detail than the truck brand. Record the make, model, year, cab and bed configuration, bed measurements and any added vehicle equipment. Bring the vehicle-specific payload and camper-loading information you already have, and describe the number of occupants and typical travel load.

For the loading list, use our truck camper payload planning guide. A calculation alone does not approve an installation; compatibility must be reviewed for the actual truck and build.

2. Compare the same kind of camping platform

A pop-up truck cap and an integrated living camper do not necessarily include the same equipment. A lower starting price can reflect a different product scope, not a like-for-like saving. Establish what the shell, sleeping arrangement, interior and utilities include before comparing two quotations.

Our pop-up truck cap versus slide-in camper guide explains the questions to ask. Review the Pop-Up 02 detail page and Pop-Up X detail page for the respective product information rather than assuming both are supplied as the same type of build.

3. Use a sample viewing to collect evidence

Inspect the sample under the supplier’s instructions and note its actual configuration. The sample you see may have different options from the unit you intend to order. Photograph or write down the differences so they can be reflected in the proposal.

A showroom sample is a useful starting point, not proof of every production unit’s specification or of suitability in every market. Do not handle energised systems or carry out load tests yourself during a viewing.

Every WanderWheels camper undergoes a water-ingress test before leaving the factory. For your order, ask about the test method and whether a unit-specific inspection record can be supplied. A pre-delivery check is not an independent waterproof rating or an unlimited waterproofing guarantee.

For a broader supplier review, use our truck camper manufacturer checklist. This appointment guide focuses on preparing a visit and collecting sample evidence; the manufacturer guide covers supplier evaluation before an order.

4. Ask for a quotation that can be compared

Send a single written brief to each shortlisted supplier. Ask for the exact model, option list, included and excluded equipment, currency and quotation validity. Confirm the proposed delivery terms, packaging, destination-related transport scope and the documents relevant to your order.

For a dealer or fleet discussion, also state the initial quantity, whether you need a sample first, and the destination market. Ask for the current minimum-order policy, production schedule, spare-parts support and warranty process in writing. This guide does not promise a fixed minimum order, delivery time, market certification or warranty term.

5. Choose a Guangzhou viewing or a Rongcheng factory visit

Guangzhou: off-site meeting and sample viewing

If Guangzhou fits your itinerary, request a viewing with your preferred dates and the camper model you want to discuss. We will confirm the available sample, meeting location and time individually. An appointment request is not a confirmed booking.

Use this option to review the sample configuration and discuss your truck and buying requirements. It is not a factory tour, and no Canton Fair exhibition stand is announced here.

Request a Guangzhou sample viewing

Rongcheng, Shandong: factory visit by appointment

If you would like to discuss a factory visit, contact us before arranging travel to Rongcheng. This is a separate destination from Guangzhou. We will confirm the factory address, visit date and the areas or activities available for your appointment.

Tell us what you need to evaluate: the manufacturing workflow, a particular build, inspection documentation or an ongoing dealer programme. Do not assume every production process or sample will be available on the day.

Request a Rongcheng factory visit

6. Send an appointment brief the team can act on

On the contact form, write “Guangzhou sample viewing” or “Rongcheng factory visit” in the message. Include the following details. The existing form does not automatically reserve a date or select a visit type.

  1. Your preferred dates and number of visitors.
  2. The model or camping platform you want to examine.
  3. Your truck make, model, year and bed configuration, if known.
  4. Your destination market and whether the enquiry is personal, dealer or fleet-related.
  5. The configuration priorities or questions you want to cover.

Wait for a written confirmation of the time, place and sample availability before finalising travel. No airport pickup, accommodation, free transport or guaranteed viewing slot is included by default.

Questions buyers often ask

Are the Guangzhou appointments inside the Canton Fair?

No. The arrangements described here are off-site meetings and sample viewings. Check the organiser’s own directory for official exhibition information; this page does not announce a WanderWheels booth.

Can I choose which camper to see?

State the model you would like to examine. Our team must confirm which sample and configuration are available for the requested date.

Can the sample viewing confirm fitment for my pickup?

It can support the discussion, but it does not replace a vehicle-specific review of dimensions, loading information and mounting requirements for the ordered build.

Can I visit Rongcheng during my Guangzhou trip?

You can request a factory appointment, but Rongcheng is a separate destination. Confirm the visit and plan the onward journey independently; no travel duration or transport service is promised here.

Prepare your shortlist before you travel

Use our truck camper payload planning guide, then send your vehicle brief and preferred appointment option.

Manufacturer selection · Overseas buying guide

Choosing a truck camper manufacturer in China starts with a clear build brief and evidence you can check. An attractive sample or a low headline price does not establish vehicle compatibility, the delivered equipment or the support you will receive after the order.

A practical comparison has three parts: confirm who is supplying the product, agree exactly what will be built, and document how it will be inspected and supported. Use the checklist below for a single camper, an initial dealer order or a fleet enquiry.

Go to the supplier comparison checklist or request a Guangzhou viewing or Rongcheng factory appointment.

1. Define the product before evaluating the factory

Write down the truck details, the destination market and the way the camper will be used. Describe sleeping capacity, storage, utilities and any equipment you consider essential. A cap-style platform and a more integrated living camper can have different scopes, so do not treat every “pop-up camper” quotation as the same offer.

Review the truck cap versus slide-in camper comparison and the payload planning guide before requesting quotations. Ask for the weight of the proposed configuration, not only a headline shell figure. Request a vehicle-specific review for the actual installation.

2. Confirm the supplier’s identity and responsibilities

Ask which company will issue the quotation and order documents, where the relevant production takes place, and who is responsible for technical questions and after-sales support. A brand, an exporter and a factory may have different roles. Clarifying those roles is more useful than assuming a particular business model is automatically good or bad.

Keep the answers with the quotation. Supplier selection should be based on the actual scope and evidence, not unsupported claims about competitors or an unverified “best manufacturer” label.

3. Ask for configuration-relevant manufacturing evidence

Choose questions that connect the manufacturing process to the product you intend to buy. Request dated photographs, drawings or inspection records where available, and ask whether they relate to the same model and build configuration. A photograph of one process should not be treated as evidence that every unit has passed a particular test.

We are describing questions to ask, not claiming that every supplier uses one mandatory test programme. Relevant destination-market requirements and any certification claims need configuration-specific documentation and appropriate professional review.

What this means when buying from WanderWheels

Water-ingress testing on every camper before dispatch

Every WanderWheels camper undergoes a water-ingress test before it leaves our factory. This is a check on each unit, not only a demonstration on a sample camper. It is part of our pre-dispatch quality-control process; it does not replace correct installation, operation or maintenance.

Welded aluminum construction

The Pop-Up X combines a welded aluminum body with an all-aluminum frame. When discussing your build, ask our team to explain the structural construction and joining details for the model you intend to order.

Four-point ratchet securing system

Another WanderWheels feature to review is our four-point ratchet securing system. Ask our team to explain the four attachment points, the ratchet hardware and the mounting arrangement for your vehicle. Confirm the installation instructions and the equipment included with the model you order; the securing system and the parking legs should be reviewed separately.

Faceted, diamond-inspired exterior styling

Our multi-faceted, diamond-inspired exterior gives the camper a distinctive geometric profile. Inspect the body shape and finish during a sample viewing, and confirm the external dimensions of your ordered configuration.

Review the support system with the ordered configuration

The current Pop-Up X specification includes four mechanical parking legs. Ask our team to demonstrate the support and camper-removal procedure and confirm the equipment supplied with your configuration.

4. Put the build scope and change process in writing

Ask for a dated specification identifying the model, option list, included equipment and exclusions. Clarify the finished configuration and the information still needed for fitment review. If you request OEM, branding or other customisation, ask the supplier to confirm what can actually be changed and what remains standard.

Agree how a change will be documented before production continues. For example, a different battery, refrigerator or interior layout can affect dimensions, weight, price or delivery planning. A short written change list helps prevent the sample, quotation and ordered unit from becoming three different builds.

5. Compare the total order scope, not just a starting price

Ask each supplier to respond to the same requirements. The proposal should identify its currency, quantity, options, validity and included transport or packaging scope. Separate an indicative starting price from a configuration-specific quotation.

For overseas delivery, ask about the packed dimensions, packing method, collection or shipping arrangements and documentation relevant to the destination. The appropriate customs classification, taxes and import requirements must be confirmed for the actual goods and market; this guide does not provide a universal duty rate or guarantee import approval.

Supplier comparison checklist

Use the following questions as a discussion worksheet. Record the answer and the supporting document, rather than awarding a score from a photograph alone.

DecisionAsk for
Who supplies the order?Company identity and written responsibility for the build and support.
What will arrive?A dated model and option list with included and excluded equipment.
What fits the truck?Vehicle-specific dimensions, configured weight and the remaining installation checks.
How is the build checked?Relevant inspection methods and available records for the proposed configuration.
What does the quotation cover?Quantity, currency, options, packaging, transport scope and validity.
What happens after delivery?Written warranty process, spare-parts route and response responsibilities.

6. Understand support before committing to the order

Ask how a technical issue will be reported, what information the team will need and who supplies parts or instructions. Clarify the warranty terms and exclusions in the written proposal. An overseas buyer should also understand which work can be handled locally and which issues need supplier involvement.

For a dealership discussion, describe the destination market, planned initial quantity and support capability. Ask for current sample-order, minimum-order and lead-time policies rather than assuming they are fixed. We do not publish an unconfirmed exclusive territory, warranty duration or production deadline in this guide.

7. Use a sample viewing and factory visit for different purposes

A sample viewing helps you examine a camper configuration. A factory visit can support discussion of the manufacturing workflow and documentation available on the day. Neither replaces the written specification or the review needed for the actual installation and destination market.

View a sample in Guangzhou by appointment

WanderWheels can arrange an off-site meeting and sample viewing in Guangzhou. Send your preferred dates and the model you want to discuss. Our team will confirm the time, location and available sample; this is not a Canton Fair booth or an automatically confirmed booking.

Request a Guangzhou sample viewing

Request a factory visit in Rongcheng, Shandong

Overseas buyers can request an appointment at our Rongcheng factory. It is a separate destination from Guangzhou. Confirm the factory address, date and what can be shown before booking onward travel. No particular production activity, pickup or accommodation is promised by default.

Request a Rongcheng factory visit

In the contact-form message, specify the appointment option, your preferred dates, number of visitors, intended market and vehicle details if known. Use your vehicle brief and the supplier comparison checklist above to prepare your visit. Wait for a written appointment confirmation before travelling.

Common manufacturer-selection questions

Does the lowest quoted price mean the same product is cheaper?

Not necessarily. Compare the model, options, configuration, packaging and transport scope before comparing totals. A shell or cap platform is not automatically equivalent to an equipped living camper.

Does seeing a sample establish fitment for my truck?

No. Share the vehicle-specific information and request a review of the ordered build. A sample viewing does not establish loading, mounting or destination-market compliance.

Can a factory visit guarantee the quality of every future unit?

No. Use the visit to understand the supplier and the available evidence, then agree the specification and inspection arrangements for your own order.

Are customised builds and dealer terms the same for every enquiry?

No. Ask for the current options and order-specific proposal. This article does not promise an MOQ, exclusivity, fixed lead time or universal certification.

Turn the checklist into a specific proposal

Truck camper comparison

“Pop-up” describes a roof that opens, but it does not tell you how the rest of the camping system works. A pickup cap with a roof tent and a more integrated truck camper can both provide sleeping space while offering very different storage, utilities and everyday routines.

The useful distinction: decide whether you want a flexible covered bed and sleeping platform, or a more integrated interior living system. Then check the complete build against your particular truck and travel requirements.

A truck cap and a living camper solve different problems

A cap-style platform starts with the pickup bed as usable storage space and adds a covered body and sleeping arrangement. Buyers need to decide how cooking, water, power and other daily needs will be handled in their particular build. The category name alone does not tell you which equipment is included.

An integrated camper brings more of those functions into a coordinated living system. Its specification may include a bed, water equipment and electrical controls, with additional systems offered as options. It still needs a configuration-specific quotation: do not assume that a photograph shows the base package.

The WanderWheels Pop-Up 02 is positioned as a lightweight aluminum truck-cap platform with a pop-up roof tent. The Pop-Up X is positioned as an integrated expedition living camper. Compare the actual specifications rather than treating both as identical “pop-up campers.”

These are the figures currently published on the linked product pages, not delivered-price quotations or guarantees of the selected build’s weight. Freight, taxes and the exact supplied equipment must be clarified in your quotation. Options can change both cost and loading requirements.

Choose around your camping routine

Start with how you use the pickup bed

Write down what you carry on a normal workday and a camping weekend. Do you need access to tools and storage through side doors? Will your cargo arrangement change between trips? Sketch the space required for your gear rather than relying only on a roof-open photograph.

Plan the things you do when it rains

Think through arriving late, changing clothes, preparing food and packing away wet equipment. Ask for a layout drawing and a demonstration of the actual configuration. A setup that suits short outdoor-focused trips may feel different during a longer stay when more activities need to happen under cover.

Specify utilities separately

List the water, refrigeration, charging, heating and bathroom functions you actually need. Mark each one as included, optional or supplied separately. This prevents a low headline price from being compared with a substantially more equipped configuration.

Review your truck before choosing options

Use your vehicle-specific loading information and the finished build’s confirmed weight. A lighter platform can leave a different planning balance, but that is not universal approval for any half-ton or mid-size pickup. Ask for the configured camper weight and build a complete loading list before ordering.

Which one should go on your shortlist?

Investigate Pop-Up 02 first if you want the truck-cap and roof-tent approach and are willing to plan the surrounding camping systems. Confirm that its access, storage and sleeping arrangement matches the way you use the bed.

Investigate Pop-Up X first if you want a more integrated living system and your vehicle-specific review supports the completed installation. Use its layout and equipment list to decide which options genuinely matter for your trips.

Neither choice should be based on the model name alone. A detailed quote and fitment review are more useful than claims such as “fits all trucks” or an unverified temperature rating.

Five questions to ask before paying a deposit

  1. What exactly is included in this quoted configuration, and which pictured items are optional?
  2. What is the completed build weight, and what does that figure include?
  3. What measurements and vehicle documents are needed to review my installation?
  4. How does the roof, storage access and daily setup work in the configuration I am buying?
  5. What are the written shipping, warranty, service and spare-parts arrangements for my destination?

Compare the actual products

Open the Pop-Up 02 detail page or Pop-Up X detail page, then send your truck details and equipment priorities for a configuration-specific discussion.

Ask about your truck and build

Common questions

Does “pop-up” mean the two models have the same living space?

No. Roof operation is only one feature. Compare the platform, interior layout and included equipment shown on each current product page.

Does a truck cap automatically fit every truck with the same bed length?

No. Bed geometry, mounting details, vehicle configuration and loading requirements still need review. Provide the model year and actual measurements rather than ordering from bed length alone.

Truck camper buying guide

The camper’s advertised weight is only one line in your loading plan. Before choosing a pickup truck camper, account for the people, equipment and supplies that will travel with it—and check the limits that apply to your particular vehicle.

Start here: use the payload figure on your own truck’s label, request the weight of your exact camper configuration, and keep a written list of everything else you add. A positive arithmetic balance alone does not approve a camper installation.

1. Find the starting point for your truck

Do not use another owner’s truck, a towing rating or a model’s headline “maximum payload” as your number. Vehicle configurations differ. Ford’s payload guidance points owners to the vehicle’s tire-and-loading label and explains that equipment installed after manufacture must be accounted for.

Also consult the manual and camper-loading information supplied for your vehicle. For example, the 2026 Ford Super Duty manual directs slide-in camper owners to their vehicle’s Truck Camper Loading document. This is a check for that vehicle—not a recommendation that every Super Duty, F-150, Ranger or other pickup can carry either WanderWheels model.

2. List the load you will actually carry

Make one list for the finished travel setup. Include occupants, the configured camper, added vehicle accessories, supplies and any other loads identified by your vehicle manufacturer. Keep all entries in the same unit.

Avoid double-counting. If your confirmed camper weight includes a battery or an awning, do not add that same item again. Ask for clarification if the supplier has not stated whether a figure is dry, equipped or ready for travel.

3. A worked example—not an approved installation

Suppose a fictional truck’s label lists a 1,000 kg payload. The owner plans a 600 kg configured camper, 160 kg of occupants, 80 kg of added vehicle equipment and 100 kg of gear and consumables.

Illustrative entryWeight
Label payload1,000 kg
Configured camper−600 kg
Occupants−160 kg
Added vehicle equipment−80 kg
Gear and consumables−100 kg
Arithmetic planning balance60 kg

The 60 kg balance is only the result of these entries. It does not establish compliance with axle, tire, mounting, center-of-gravity or vehicle-specific camper restrictions. Missing or inaccurate entries change the result. Arrange the vehicle-specific review and weighing needed for the actual installation.

Payload planning worksheet

Copy these six entries into your own loading list. Keep every entry in kilograms, or use pounds consistently throughout. Subtract only items not already included in another confirmed figure.

  1. Vehicle-specific label payload: _____
  2. Confirmed configured camper weight: _____
  3. Occupants: _____
  4. Added vehicle equipment: _____
  5. Gear and consumables: _____
  6. Other applicable loads: _____

Arithmetic balance = label payload − entries 2 through 6. A negative result means these planned entries exceed that starting figure. A positive result does not establish axle, tire, center-of-gravity or mounting compliance. Use the vehicle manufacturer’s documentation and arrange an installation-specific review.

4. Compare the two WanderWheels platforms

The current published weight ranges are 450–750 kg for Pop-Up X and 150–180 kg for Pop-Up 02. Pop-Up X is positioned as an integrated living camper; Pop-Up 02 is a truck-cap and pop-up sleeping platform. They are not equivalent equipment packages, and these ranges are not vehicle-fitment approvals.

If your loading plan leaves little room for supplies, do not assume that choosing fewer options or adding suspension equipment resolves every limit. Review the exact build and vehicle documentation with a qualified installer. Compare the current product layouts and included equipment before deciding which platform to shortlist.

5. Gather the details for a useful fitment review

Send the truck make, model, year, cab and bed configuration; bed measurements and mounting details; payload and weight-rating information; installed accessories; and your travel load list. Request the final configured weight and a clear base-versus-options breakdown. When sharing label photographs, cover personal details that are not needed for the review.

Choose a camper around your real truck

Compare the Pop-Up X specifications and Pop-Up 02 specifications, then ask for a vehicle-specific review before ordering.

Request a fitment review

Common questions

Is payload the same as towing capacity?

No. Do not substitute a towing number for the load-carrying information that applies to the truck. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your combination, especially if you plan to tow while carrying a camper.

Does a positive worksheet balance approve my camper installation?

No. The arithmetic cannot validate the vehicle label, configured build weight, load distribution or mounting restrictions. Use the manufacturer’s camper-loading information and have the actual installation reviewed before ordering.
